This painting is about many things. It is about the technological changes in our world, namely the popularity of the internet, the ability of individuals to promote themselves without needing a third party, the ability to connect to others without being physically present in the same place as them and the physical isolation this can produce. It is also about the scientific advances in the area of biomechanics and the study of the brain. The other issue my painting tackles, is what it is like to be a woman in this high tech age. Jobs now are based on services and not product. Because of technological advances women are no longer seen as primarily child bearers and thus are able to pursue careers. It is a painting about being plugged into a system. I’m not sure if all these things are good or bad, but they are certainly very interesting in the way they are redefining the ‘Human Condition’ in our contemporary age.
