Place of birth: Columbus, Ohio, USA

  • Place of current residence:  London, U.K.
  • Where did you learn to be an artist? I started drawing extensively at the age of 4. I did also go to Art College but I would not say that art college ‘taught’ me to be an ‘artist.’
  • Which artists inspire you? Lucien Freud, Frida Kahlo, Caravaggio, Velázquez, Angelica Kaufmann
  • Describe your own art work: Figurative and decadent. Death and decay mixed with life and spirit.
  • Why do you make art? Because I can!
  • Why do you think art is important?  It just is. I’m a painter. If I was good with words I’d have been a writer or a conceptual artist.
  • What is the worst piece of art work you have seen? Bags of rubbish being ‘mistaken’ for rubbish and being removed from the gallery by a cleaner.
  • Which piece of your own art work do you like best? Baked Velasquez.
  • Hobbies/ areas of interest (other than art): Scuba Diving, cycling, walking, travelling, making home movies, watching Mexican wrestling.
  • Favourite colour:  Naples yellow is a good paint colour and mixes well. I like reds and pinks and purples in paintings.
  • Favourite poem: “Surprised” by Sexton Ming. Opening lines: “I was surprised/ when you came home/ in a body bag…”
  • How do you combat creative blocks: Red Bull and coffee.
