  • Describe your own art work: I have always believed very strongly that while Art is fundamentally a creative process it gains stature and monumentality through the craft and skill in the making of it.  So for me solid draughtsmanship, composition and the painterly skills of brush stroke and colour add to the power of the finished painting.  I attempt to look beyond the fleeting and try to capture something deeper about the subject of my painting while at the same time giving the viewer an experience of the subject as it exists in space and time.  We experience ourselves as a composite, a series of memories of ourselves through time that somehow flicker together to produce the ´I´ we are aware of and when I paint a portrait or a figure I am conscious of trying to make this visible.  It is when this is successful that we find ourselves wanting to spend time with the painting as we encounter the complexity and ambiguity that inevitably results from going beyond the superficial.
