Artista Eli – One Love Butterfly – 2015 – Acrylic on Canvas – 30 x 30 cm
This piece is essentially about change and “The Butterfly Effect”, which is a mathematical theory named by Edward Lorenz in 1961, (when he was studying weather systems), and is derived from the idea that a butterfly can flap its wings in one place in the world and this small action can magnify and effect a larger reaction somewhere else far across the world and is known as “sensitive dependence on initial conditions”. I have made specifically a “One Love Butterfly” to illustrate a small action of love can be magnified and have big consequences around the world. Many of us don’t think we can change things which distress us. Many think a small action won’t make a big difference and therefore we do nothing. If we all act on the small things in life it can make a big difference. Signing a petition, listening to someone’s problems, helping someone out and even just giving someone a smile can brighten someone’s day. Obviously on some days things can seem overwhelming, but we can try to what we can, when we can, with the resources (both practical and emotional) we have at the time.
“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” (Often attributed to Plato).
